Purpose Statement: Write Down Your Goals
Life is FULL of distractions…
That’s why it’s so easy to drift away from what matters most and slowly get off course.
The next thing you know, you’re twenty to thirty pounds over- weight without even trying.
But there’s also a 2 minute “ancient secret” you can use every morning (and it’s NOT exercise, food, or a magic pill) that can prevent you from falling off track.
My affirmation is called my “Purpose Statement,” and it summarizes your life’s direction, your commitments, and your purpose in life.
These Purpose Statements can be very powerful.
…and if you don’t use affirmations, it could have a negative effect on your Sense of Purpose.
A purpose statement spells out, in detail, what you intend to do with your life.
It defines success for YOU and clarifies your values and your roles in life.
It defines the meaning of your health, your body, your spouse and family, and even your career and your finances.
And don’t forget about your spiritual growth along with your passions and hobbies.
How do we keep up?
As you can clearly see from the image below, this can be a little overwhelming because we all have at least seven key areas we need to be consistently paying attention to.
Now if, for some odd reason, you don’t think using an affirmation or Purpose Statement will help you get a flat belly and achieve optimal health, I’m here to convince you otherwise.
In fact, Proverbs lays out this ancient secret for you by saying:
“An intelligent person aims at wise action, but a fool starts off in many directions.”
The bible also clearly states:
“Know where you are headed, and you will stay on solid ground.”
It’s so simple, it sounds cliché, but how many people actually think about this type of stuff, let alone DO something about it.
By writing out your purpose statement, you’ll know exactly where you’re going with your body and your life every day when you wake up.
It will take a little bit of time and effort to figure out your affirmations, but it will only require about 2 minutes per day after that.
You can use a notepad, a word document or set up power point slides for each area of your life.
I personally use 5×7 index cards and hand write my affirmation for each area of my life (shown on the Circle of Life above) and update them whenever it’s necessary.
For example…my 5×7 card for Career, Hobbies, or Passion reads like this:
I Shaun Hadsall use my God given gifts to create content and products that reach hundreds of people locally and thousands of people across the globe with long term fat loss solutions that solves their weight problems and helps them improve EVERY
area of their lives.
My 5×7 card for Health and Fitness reads like this:
I Shaun Hadsall exercise and eat clean at least 5 days a week and maintain 10% body fat or lower year round as a vehicle to be a better husband, father, and business man, which improves every other area of my life in a positive way.
Notice I write them in the present tense like it’s ALREADY achieved.
This is huge because it programs your mind to believe this is “how” it is – right now, which means you’re 10x more likely to follow through and live out what you’ve just read.
Then all you have to do is block off two measly minutes a day with NO interruptions and read through your purpose statement.
THIS WILL MOTIVATE YOU TO TAKE MASSIVE ACTION like you never have before.
I can’t tell you how much more I’ve achieved in EVERY area of my life using this simple two minute formula.
– Yes, I continue to mess up some things in my life.
– Yes, I will continue to have failures.
– Yes, I will still eat crap when I’m not supposed to sometimes. 🙂
– Yes, I’ll still be lazy when I shouldn’t be once in a while.
– Yes, I’ll still make some stupid mistakes.
– Yes, there are plenty of days where I don’t read my purpose statement…
BUT, I stack the deck in my favor and dramatically increase my chances of success because I PROGRAM my mind on a consistent basis by using this “ancient secret” MOST of the time.
This is not a “maybe” offer.
It’s pretty much a guarantee that if you perform this exercise five to seven days a week you’ll be happier, achieve more, feel more of a sense of worth in your life, and get a helleva lot more done.
If you struggle with ideas on what to write just ask yourself these questions:
– What are my gifts and my passions in life?
– What kind of physical condition do I want to be in?
– What do I want to look like?
– What are my unique talents, gifts, and abilities?
– What kind of lifestyle do I want?
– What do I want to learn?
– Who do I want to spend my time with?
– How do I want to be remembered?
– What do I want to be known for?
– Where do I want to be spiritually, mentally, and financially?
– What’s most important to me?
– What contributions do I want to make?
– What kind of spouse or parent do I want to be?
– What legacy do I want to leave?
Answering these questions will uncover more than you could ever imagine and help you write out a meaningful Purpose Statement for every area of your life.
Remember, whatever is at the center of your life is YOUR god.
My focus is using fitness as an anchor to have a deeper, more meaningful relationship with my creator, and improve every other area of my life as a bonus side-effect.
I personally committed my life to fitness and a relationship with the ultimate leader, Jesus Christ, well over 15 years ago, but I’m not here to push fitness, religion or God on you.
And besides, this isn’t about me.
This is about YOU.
I’m just here to inspire you to be consciously aware of what the center of your life will be and WRITE IT DOWN.
Purpose Statement: Make sure to write it down
Remember, your mind is like a garden.
If all you do is plant seeds of interruptions, negative news, and media overload on a daily basis your garden (mind) will grow a bunch of poison.
This ends up carrying over into other areas of your life in a negative way so you (and your loved ones) end up suffering.
But if you plant seeds of positive thoughts by taking two short minutes every day to read your SOP…
…Your garden will grow a bunch of healthy fruit in every area of your life and you’ll achieve more than you ever thought was possible.
Of course, just like any great motivational tactic, this is NOT a cure-all for life’s problems and challenges.
They’ll ALWAYS exist.
But with time and consistency you’ll be amazed at what can happen when you apply this formula to your life.
WARNING: This whole process can also stir up a LOT of emotions.
In all honesty, my purpose statement has had such a positive impact on my life over the years, I well up and get teary-eyed just typing these words.
And it may sound weird, but I want the same thing to happen to YOU.
Because you deserve to be happy.
You deserve to be lean and healthy.
You deserve to achieve all your dreams, goals, and desires in life.
You just have to PROGRAM your mind for success, “believe” you can do it…and TAKE ACTION.
Remember, anything the mind can see AND believe…it can achieve.
As “cheesy” as it may sound, I’ve learned from experience how accurate it really it is.
I’d love to hear your take on this post.
Does it resonate with you???
Hit reply and let Karen and I know your thoughts.
Keep going strong,
Shaun “purpose” Hadsall
