What’s the best time to exercise? Does it really matter? One of the most asked questions we receive from our subscribers and customers is: “When is the best time for me to exercise?”. How do you exercise to lose stubborn fat (especially belly fat and cellulite)?
The absolute best time to exercise is in the morning in a fasted state! Why?
Glycogen is depleted from your muscles and your liver during your sleep cycle. Your insulin levels also drop dramatically which puts you in a “fat-burning” environment.
So when you wake up in the morning, you are then primed for the best fat-burning workout of your day. (Now, it goes without saying that your nutrition needs to be optimal; eating chips and drinking sodas all week will not put you in a fat-burning environment!)
If you can manage to exercise while insulin is low and there’s little glycogen in your muscles and liver, take advantage of this! If you must have coffee that is fine. Just make sure there are no calories in your drink. Even stevia in your coffee will raise insulin levels just a little. (Water is always your best bet).
During your workout several things will happen:
- Adrenalin will rise: The adrenal glands produce adrenaline, a hormone secreted during high stress or exciting events. This powerful hormone is part of the human body’s response system, also called the “fight or flight” response. It works by stimulating the heart rate, contracting blood vessels, and dilating air passages, all of which work to increase blood flow to the muscles and oxygen to the lungs.
- Growth Hormones will rise: Human Growth Hormone (HGH) drops off about 14% per decade. Aging is believed to be caused by lower levels of this hormone. Research shows that by increasing the natural amount of HGH in the system, the body may be able to reverse a few symptoms related to aging, (ex. weight gain, loss of lean muscle, wrinkles, bone density, and sexual drive).
- Leptin will be reset: Leptin is your number #1 fat-burning hormone. Leptin, like other hormones, fluctuates in your bloodstream. It needs to be reset so it’s working well and this is the best time to exercise ( in the morning before breakfast) to reset this fat-burning hormone.
